Bali Mural Conspiracy at Bali Creative Fest 2011
On December 25 to 27 November 2011, once again BCF held in the area of Inna Grand Bali Beach Hotel, Sanur Bali.
We were on this occasion took the theme of “National Treasure, save Borneo Orangutan” news lately that we are witnessing in the media in Indonesia (although very late) how one of our endemic fauna on the island of Borneo were massacred in cold blood on economic motives. Since it is considered annoying pests of oil palm plantations, orangutans are rewarded one million rupiah per-tail for anyone who can take him alive or dead. We’ve reversed mind, is peoples who had cleared their house? So their Habitat get narrowed every time, they search for food, so as to “plunder” of palm oil plantations that have replaced their “home”.
I am not an animal care who defend animals right, but hearing this news also ignited my resentment against this case, let alone listen to one news how to delay the authorities deal with this, and as always there when local governments argued in interviews or using rhetorical language the administrative style of Government …. so stupid!! That’s my first impression of the news, some residents who receive wages for killing orangutans as stupid as the government and officials there … … .. more stupid again when I heard a conservation activist there said, they were already working to conserve, while orangutans have been ready to be released into their natural habitat in the protected forest postscript government owned, they have to pay again, so does not make sense right? how we can respect this nation, when people can’t appreciate ours .
More sad again when I spoke with a foreign friends, I ask where else you want to go in Indonesia? He replied, I want to Sumatra and Kalimantan, why? I asked … …. I want to see orangutans, because maybe 10 years from now they will have become extinct, I want to see immediately before they became extinct … … … … .. so he said, while most Indonesians itself actually feels cool when have holiday abroad , while our land itself is so vast and rich is not yet fully explored. I personally have the ideal travel around the archipelago, armed with brushes, paint and paper or canvas one day, to “capture” all the beauty of this land and preserve it into works of art.
Well we as artists can’t jump in there to make changes, we can pass a way languages express our concerns, hopefully can inspire colleagues from other professions to it and the same ideals.
30 September until 2 October 2011 Echo mural at Pakis Haji Street.
Echo Mural present by Akarumput community base in Denpasar, 3 days mural party and street art joint by individuals and communities around Denpasar. On the Sunday night the celebrations present music from Bali indie bands and musicians full supported by Farabi Music School Denpasar.
During do this mural party, me with my kid Damar Langit Timur the younger muralista comrade finish one block of wall. The idea about green think of think green, symbolized by head with trees growing up it means if we want act and concern with environmental issue first thing we must think green and grow our own responsibility to our closed communities.
The Mural joint by many communities and individual artists around, like Djamur community, Pojok Community, Bali Mural Conspiracy, kids from Bali International School and many more, the most important point are they full supported by the local youth community (warga Bajar Pakis Haji)
Anyway, this kind of programs hopefully have more supported by anyone in the future, it’s make our street more colorful, more place to expressed peoples idea in making art, and make visual art more closed to the societies.

Mural at Sumatran Orangutan Society Ubud Bali
Is a NGO base on Sumatran Orangutan and forest conservation, in Ubud they have office and open a shop to raise money to conservation center in Gunung Leuser National Park in west Sumatra, Indonesia.
Since 13 of August 2011 I start a mural project at SOS office and shop at Pengosekan Street number 505 Ubud Bali, until 17th of September 2011 end. It’s a long time hard work to finish this mural alone but still fun when knowing new things in our life.
Is a great opportunities to involve in this project, knowing something new about a bit side of my beloved country but knowing the fact about how damage our forest already are the worst thing, again and again blaming on our government for all that shit is one of the make sense reasons.
Makin this mural maybe do not help anything real for the conservation project but my hope is, it will be one of the inspirations for others that if we do not start right now it will be lost it forever and the only one left just a story about it.

Catur Muka Statue
these are Bali Mural Conspiracy part of the ambitious project called Bali island of 1000 Mural, a bit same tourism industry propaganda when called this island as a Bali Island of 1000 Temple or Bali Island of God.
these picture are from the Bali Creative Festival at Art Center Denpasar on 3th until 6th of December 2010, a festival off all the creative community in Bali.
This project commenced on 25 February 2010 which I hope to end 28 March 2010, begins with a discussion with the volunteers of the foundation, after we agree and then proceed with the presentation of the project plan will be murals that adorn the walls of the foundation in front of the entrance. Seeing the enthusiasm of the children, we soon may be headed to the next stage is starting to make and formulate what the theme will be done later.
This mural project ideas as ideas that can be realized, because once I offered to create a mural with some friends and the community of artists who still want to get down to the road for work and for the children of their foundation was greeted enthusiastically because some children there are very interested in art a way of painting, so a little creativity they have distribution outside of drawing classes in general.
For myself there is the essence of which can be used as self-criticism, as an artist who usually works very individual way and at times produced work that seemed arrogant, and I also see that trend in some event that ever happened in Bali, sometimes by artists who participate in an event pubic art, outside the gallery walls, less able to absorb and respond to the environment in which the work will be realized, most simply moved from the studio work or gallery into the public space. With this project I wanted to feel how a collective work with children who tends to make and say what was in their hearts, absorb what they want and then be jointly visualizing it.
Collectivity that is to be emphasized in this project, because with today’s development progress tends more individual people in everything, while the old base and values of our culture full of spirit, mutual cooperation, to share the challenges the future. As with the spirit of building a foundation, they provide additional education free for rural children who are less fortunate can enter schools with a good quality of education, while public schools are really the hope, the system is still centralized curriculum and with standards that teachers have no concept of educating tends not to provide solutions to meet the challenges of the future, while the private schools that the system is very capitalistic, but with quality educators who are good will be expensive because the school used the fields of business, let alone the number of international schools which of course is very expensive and can only be reached by the children of expats only. If the problem continues like that of course the local kids who will be the successor generation will be the guests of their own home, which should all children have equal learning opportunities and I am also sure they all have the same intelligence to prepare for the challenges and competition period come. With the theme of this mural project is related to cheap but quality education, strong nation begins with a strong generation can learn from anywhere, grass, neighbors, fields, fields, houses and so on.
